Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, April 20 -- With the outcome of the much anticipated Pennsylvania primary just two days away, Hillary Clinton returned to the state to amp up her supporters in a race that could be a large boost for her claim on the Democratic nomination. Bethlehem, PA, was the first stage in a whistle-stop last minute blitz across the state, with four major appearances scheduled Sunday. (Abington, State College, and Johnstown were the other stops.)

Long lines wound around the blocks and the athletic stadium at Liberty High School in this neighborhood of middle-class and blue-collar homes. Many Clinton enthusiasts were impatient as they waited for the doors to open, waving signs and shouting out their support at passing drivers, many of whom honked their horns and shouted back.

Inside the gymnasium, a team of energetic campaign supporters warmed up the crowd with political cheers and by tossing free Hillary tee-shirts to the anxious and impatient crowd. Tom Petty's "American Girl" boomed from the loudspeakers, followed by John Mellencamp's "Small Town" and a play list of other evocative and well-known American rock anthems. The usual local politicians appeared briefly to introduce themselves, and then Hillary Clinton took the stage to loud acclaim with Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell making the introduction.

With more than a month since her victories in Ohio, Texas, and Rhode Island, Hillary had plenty of time to touch all the bases in this diverse state. Bethlehem Steel, once a mainstay of the state's manufacturing economy, now lies rusting in the Lehigh Valley awaiting implementation of a development plan. Hillary connects with this, she tells the crowd, having just toured a similarly defunct Bucks County steel mill which is being converted to "green" environmentally friendly new industries. The crowd cheers. Indeed, there is little the crowd doesn't cheer. This is her base, and the cheers are a matter of degree. I am surprised by the number of young mothers and fathers in the crowd, all tidy and hopeful, toddlers cradled in their arms.

Who would you hire? With experience comes the knowledge of what works and what does not work. With experience comes the wisdom of recognizing your failures and never repeating your mistakes. Hillary has a history of fighting for what is right for all Americans. Her experience will lead America in the right direction. Having gone through seven plant closings, downsizings, and relocations, I understand the importance of experience. We need to hire the candidate who has a proven track record. I never got hired based on popularity, but on what I was able to bring to that employer and perform DAY ONE! Who would you hire and trust with the most important job in the world? We Are In It To Win It Go Hillary : ) Help Wanted Poster Guy in PA

Moeursalen, agree with your friend. Obama is like a rich used car sales man. Don't trust him at all. I"m amazed at how easily Americans are fooled. My parents met Hillary last week when she spoke in North Carolina - my mother was so happy afterwards. they'll definitely be voting for her.

Tiny Molly Lang - I have a friend who immigrated from Ukraine. He looks at American politics from a different perspective, of course. He was completely baffled by the Obama thing. He asked me how could it be that Obama was considered a "serious guy" in America. He remarked, in broken English, that Obama was like "a guy who wants to be American Idol (contestant)." My friend dislikes Putin whom he regards as a very dangerous man. "Putin will laugh this guy like a joke," said my friend.

I also wanted to address a comment you made on my Bill Bradley article--about Obama having the stronghold on moderate voters. While I PERSONALLY agree with you that Barack's platform is far to the left of Hillary, I think people have the tendency to perceive him as a "uniter" (which I personally think is a load of garbage). All his talk of bipartisan rhetoric is just an front to mask a far left socialist agenda, but people are swayed by the charm and the hype. Maybe after the PA primary people will begin to see his true colors.

Tnx for reading, Jody....we got turned away from a Bill Clinton event in Stroudsburg because there were too many people. There was a much longer wait in Bethlehem but at least we got inside and it was actually very interesting...sort of educational, even for an old dog.

jacksmith.... You're right.... due to the four-walling media we have today and the constant spinning and slickness, elections have become more a matter of perception, celebrity, and fatuousness than the realities. It's really sad when people get hypnotized by a guy whose only experience has been half a Senate term (voting present) and term as a state senator. It's scary that people can't any longer seem to face struggles and expect everything to be easy.

Thanks, Kim.... I think McCain and Clinton are the two most experienced candidates, too.

Great article!.. I wanted to go to Bethlehem so bad! I saw Bill when he was in Jim Thorpe like a week ago. I will definitely be voting for her tomorrow!

MY FELLOW "BITTER", STUPID, WORKING CLASS PEOPLE :-) If you think like Barack Obama, that WORKING CLASS PEOPLE are just a bunch of "BITTER"!, STUPID, PEASANTS, Cash COWS!, and CANNON FODDER. :-( You Might Be An Idiot! :-) If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience. You Might Be An Idiot! :-) If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history. You Might Be An Idiot! :-) If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people. You Might Be An Idiot! :-) If you think that Obama with n

Great analysis. I'm very excited to see what happens tomorrow. If Hillary stays in the race I will be voting for her in the Indiana primary. Unless something dramatic happens, McCain will have my vote in the general election.
