Paul McCartney Urges You to Forego Meat Consumption to Save the Planet!

"If anyone wants to save the planet, all they have to do is just stop eating meat. That's the single most important thing you could do." Paul McCartney

When interviewed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) McCartney urges the world to focus on vegetables and fruit and give up meat. He said raising cattle is a huge factor in global warming and giving up meat is urgent to protect
the environment. McCartney also often discusses the health benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle. He promotes a diet without meat to aid longevity. He also expresses dismay at the way animals are raised and slaughtered for human consumption.

McCartney has also sent letters to KFC and McDonalds complaining about the abusive way in which their chickens are raised. He urged the CEOs to "end the egregious forms of abuse endured by chickens raised by KFC and McDonalds." Doesn't make fast food seem too appetizing does it ?

So, will you take Paul McCartney's advice to give up meat for the sake of the planet and future generations? Many Americans (including myself) have given up beef; I rarely miss it. This is probably because my Biology teacher in High School once talked about the filthy conditions in slaughterhouses and told us meat is very unsanitary by the time it reaches the supermarket. Ewwww was my response then and that feeling has stayed with me.

However giving up chicken too would be very difficult for me. I try to have several days a week where I do not consume any chicken or any meat but I know it would be tough to give it up all together. Also, I was raised on family traditions of Lebanese food, and that uses lamb in most recipes.

I know it is impossible for me to give up lamb. My Lebanese recipes are in my blood, I learned them when young, spent wonderful time around the kitchen table learning them from my Mother and Grandmother, and now that they are gone those recipes link me to them in almost a primordial way.

Nothing like passionately believing in your cause! I can't say that I will quit eating meat, but I have to admire someone for standing up for what they believe. Very informative article.

I adore lamb. I have cut back buying it. I buy turkey sausage & ground turkey (for chilli's, burgers, and such). I am trying to buy more seafood. Once in a while, I buy a pork roast to fix for company. Once in a while I prepare a curried oxtail stew. I'd like to cut out cooking meat at home & eating it dining out except lamb & fish. I'm buying more veggies & fruits now. So far, so good.
