Many people begin their various trips during the summer on Memorial Day. During this time most people get out of town and make their way to their favorite beach or check out amusement parks. Although taking trips during the summer is a much needed solution to the normal day to day activities it will most likely be harder for many of us this summer spend as much as we have been spending in the past summers. So if you still plan on going on various trips and do not want to go broke here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Plan Well - Although you make the reservations and buy the needed tickets for your trip, you still need to do a lot of preparations that can save you money prior to your trip. First, prior to booking hotels have a note pad beside you and write down notes such as what you are looking for hotel such as location. By choosing a hotel near the places that you will be vacationing you can save on gas by walking, biking or taking public transportation. A great idea to keep in mind is to try and plan your hotel stay so that you can park your vehicle and not drive again until check out.

Also, when hotel shopping check out web sites such as roomsaver.com and hotels.com, to see if you can get a better deal on your stay. Secondly, if you are staying at the beach, you can save money by staying at a hotel that doe not have many amenities. By cutting back on your room expenses you can utilize that money for dining out or retail shopping.

Once you have booked your room, make a check list of what you have and what you need. Many times we buy items that we already have and by purchasing items ahead of time you will save money. For example, the RX stores at the beach resort area will typically charge one to two dollars more for less quantity of items such as Tylenol, Feminine Care Products, Condoms, band aids, diapers and etc. If you are traveling by car your destination it is wise to purchase and pack these RX items that you may need.

Excellent suggestions! We take a portion of our income each paycheck and put it aside in a savings account so we don't touch it.
