The Beast Within

(Anger)

He lies dormant;
A beast fast asleep;
In the far reaches of our minds;
Waiting for the right stimulus;
Fear and betrayal;
Hurt and violation;
The pressure builds;
Until the body shakes;
Eyes burn and the face flushes;
Preparing for the eruption;
That will unleash the beast within;

Gripping hard;
Teeth are clenched, knuckles whitened;
The battle wages;
Lasting for a split second;
The monster wants to be released;
But it is held at bay;
By patience and self-control;
He howls in frustration;
"No, no! Please let me go!"
But his chains hold him down tight;
Forgiveness forces him to stop struggling;
It is of no use;
No, he will not be freed;
His fate has been sealed;
At least for now;
He is too tired to fight;
He curses his enemies;
Love, tolerance and peace;
He retreats to his resting spot;
And he falls back to sleep
