Neckties communicate. I know it sounds odd, but the type of tie, color of tie, and type of knot you use on a tie all can convey meaning. Take the Windsor Knot for example. The Windsor Knot is a knot that exudes confidence and power due to its wide, triangular shape. It is a knot that is best used for presentations or interviews. If you find yourself in a situation that is asking for confidence, then you will want to learn to tie a Windsor knot.

Luckily, learning to tie the Windsor Knot will not be as difficult as your presentation or interview. The Windsor Knot goes well with most dress shirts, and looks particularly good with a dark tie and dress jacket. The Windor Knot is not the best choice for a shirt without a jacket. In those situations, a Pratt knot or Half-Windsor knot would be a better bet.

To learn to tie a Windsor Knot you will need:
A standard medium width necktie
A mirror
This guide complete with photos
5 minutes
A bit of perseverance

How to Tie a Windsor Knot
1. Drape the tie over your shoulders. The tight should be right-side up (you should see the pattern and not the seam). The wide end should cross over the narrow end, and it should extend approximately 12 inches beyond the narrow end. See photo #1.
2. Bring the wide end up through the loop between the collar and your tie then lay it back down to the right of the growing knot. See photo #2.
3. Pull the wide end under the knot, bring it around to the front and pull it over the loop have just created. The wide end should be to the right side. See photo #3.
4. Bring the wide end back under and up through the loop between your collar and the tie. This time, instead of laying it down, you want to feed it through the loop in the front of the Windsor Knot. See image #4.
5. Gently tighten the knot until it looks professional, but is still comfortable. See image #5.

Now that you have learned to tie a Windsor Knot, you can present or interview with a bold confidence, and your clothes will back up what you are saying. Good Luck!
