This DIY fabric travel checkers game is an awesome craft to make with the kids. You can spend time with the kids making this fun craft and they can use the fabric travel checkers game this summer while you are traveling in the car or heading to vacation.

To Make a Fabric Travel Checkers Game You Will Need:

Fabric

Heavy Weight Craft Web

Ribbon

Velcro

Felt

No Fray

Sewing Machine

Fabric Glue

To get started you need two colors of felt. Felt is perfect for this craft project because it is so durable. Cut one piece of each color out to 14 by 14 inches. Try using pinking sheers to give a fun detail on the fabric. They come in all patterns and work great on felt.

Now, cut out one piece of the heavy weight Pellon craft web out to 13 by 13 inches. This is a firm web that will sit in between the felt pieces to make them firm.

Now, decided which color will be the board on your travel checker kit. We will call this red from now on. The other color, the other 14X14 inch square will be the accent color and the back of the board. Use the rest of the accent fabric; we will call it black form now on, to cut out the squares for the checkerboard.

Use fabric glue to glue these in place on the red side. You can also sew them into place.

Now, once any glue dries you are ready to assemble your fabric travel checkerboard craft.

Lay the black fabric face down on the table. Lay the piece of thick craft web on top in the cent. Finally, top off with the check board face up.

Cut two pieces of ribbon that is each 10 inches long. Place both on the left side of the fabric checkerboard. You want to slip one end inside e the layers, about 2 inches in.

Now, pin the three layers together. Sew the seams shut. You want to sew this with a 3/8 inch seam allowance. Because this is a visible seam, you want to have some fun with the stitching. Try using a fun accent color for the thread. In this case white or yellow would be awesome.

You can also use a zigzag stitch to give more detail to the fabric travel checkers kit. Trim any thread when finished and you can simply roll the fabric checkerboard shut and tie with a bow!
