Congressman Henry E. Brown Jr. took the stage at a South Carolina Republican party meeting on Friday evening. Local political hopefuls and voters looked on as the four term Congressman pressed the flesh with the public and made his feelings known about the current state of affairs as he sees them. Congressman Brown was in true election year form as he let the crowd know his feelings on such matters as the state of the economy, the war in Iraq and poor Democrat initiatives to save energy.
During the Congressman's speech he rallied the voters present behind the Republican Party; however he surprised many as he fell short of an endorsement for the Republican candidate for President John McCain. When it came time to discuss hot button issues like the economy, the Congressman did see room for improvement with the current administration and its policy. He also took this opportunity to point out that the Democrats want to repeal Bush tax cuts costing everyone money out of there own pockets.
Brown waded into the issue on the war in Iraq by pointing out he had recently returned from visiting the troops abroad. Brown belted out what appeared to be George Bush Rhetoric about staying the course and claiming progress is being made yet, being very careful to not directly align himself with the current administration.
Finally, the Congressman closed by pointing out our countries current energy woes. Brown sees that we must quickly ease the pain the country is feeling at the pump by drilling for oil near home as well as capitalizing on new found oil in South American countries. With this discussion of energy Brown found it necessary to point out to point out recent Democratic initiatives to reduce energy costs by utilizing more energy efficient light bulbs. He didn't claim the energy saving attempt was a complete loss, however, he did point out that the bulbs the Democrats wanted to use where bad for the environment because they led to more mercury in land fills... So much for saving the environment.
