The night started off with David Cook on video with Lord Andrew Lloyd Weber, both of them standing in front of a piano. Lord Andrew, as David calls him, told David that he had to look longingly at him as if he was a beautiful 17 year old girl. David quickly responded that he was 25 years old and then mentioned it was uncomfortable standing there looking at and singing longingly to Lord Andrew.

David came out with his usual comfort level on stage, slowly walking around...and he cranked Music of the Night out which, in my opinion turned out to be the performance of the night as well! He managed to turn that song into a rock ballad and proved the entire range of his vocals and the clarist and smoothness of his voice. It has also been refreshing to note that he is appearing to become more humble over the past couple of weeks and realize that yes, he is very talented, but personality and charisma play a large part in the failure and/or success of many performers.

Let the judging commence: Randy stated "Dude, that was an amazing vocal performance!" Paula mentioned that his performance "Proved that he was well rounded" and that he has a "Beautiful instrument." Simon then stated that he did not think it was his best but that he "Made the most of the song you were given."

My family and I enjoyed his performance and I expect to see him around in the weeks to come as American Idol starts drawing to an end...for this season anyway! Keep it up David and we look forward to hearing some more great things about you!

So, David Cook sounded like garbage. He song choice was terrible. Phantom requires much more talent then Cook could ever offer. now if he would have chosen a song from Jesus Christ Super star, He would have been 10 times better. Poor selection =Poor performance. He's lucky Brooke forgot the words and Jason was horrible.

I am afraid you got a couple of things wrong there: #1 Simon did NOT say it wasn't his best, he said that he liked the grittier Cook, but that he did the best he could with the song he was given #2 I think David Cook has always been humble. I think his brother's health is waying on his mind and making him sad.

Great writeup. I thought most of the contestants did well tonight. My favorites for tonight were Syesha, David A, and Jason. However, my two favorites all time are Syesha and Jason.
