Mother's Day Gifts for Women in their 50s: Family-Themed Gift Ideas for Mom

Ooh! Ooh! I know this one! I'm in my late 50s, and my wife is in her 50s. If I can't do a good job answering this question, I probably have a bigger problem than not getting an article published.

My wife and I have three older sons. My sons and I have been talking about what to get my wife for Mother's Day and what Mother's Day gifts will make her happy.

First, there is nothing more important to my wife than her family. Her sons and her husband are important. However, she is also extremely close to her brothers and sisters so, a good Mother's Day gift is having them over as a part of the day. We are planning a cookout and she will enjoy it.

As you get older there is never enough time for friends. We have good friends that we never get to see so this year I am also inviting her best friend to dinner with us. As you get older, Mother Day takes on more of a "Mother's Day Week" mentality. The older a mother is, the longer the celebration should be and, the Mother's day gifts really become people.

Mother's Day gifts for the mother in her 50s should represent not just the appreciation of her as a mother but as a mother who has walked the hard and complete road; a mother who has hung in there and stayed with the family. I can honestly say that my wife, my sons' mother has been the glue that has kept our family together through very tough times.

Some other Mother's Day gifts that I have thought about getting for my wife include a weekend away in a hotel with me. I have thought about getting her a massage as well as a gift card at her favorite women's store. She always puts everyone else first; she should get things she would never spend money on for herself.

My three sons have planned a couple of days after Mother's Day, to surprise my wife by inviting her to dinner with just them so that they can reminisce about old times as they were growing up. They wanted to give her a Mother's Day gift of their time as a threesome and without me involved.

We have gotten in the past, a Mother's Ring which has each boy's birthstone on it. Also, last year we gave my wife and her mother a day together which included shopping, lunch and dinner.
