Mother's Day for Women Older than 50: Gifts for the More Mature Mom

Women older than 50 really aren't all that different from women of any other age. Buying just the right gift for the more mature mom doesn't need to be a challenge, either. Sure, they are a bit more mature and may have more refined taste than their younger counterparts, but they aren't ready to be put out to pasture yet, either. So don't treat your mom like she is. A membership to AARP is not likely to set well with her. Take the time and effort it requires to choose a gift that is meaningful and appreciated.

If your mom is older than 50, chances are you are an adult by now and no longer have the excuse that it is the thought that counts. With a little effort on your part, mom will be glowing with pride when she opens her gift this Mother's Day.

A weekend get-a-way: Arrange for mom to take a weekend off and get away to somewhere she loves. She's spent over 50 years going to the places everyone else loves. It is her turn now.

Take a moment to consider where mom would like to go if it were solely up to her. A weekend in the mountains? A cozy lakeside cabin? Or a visit to the city?

Make the arrangements for transportation, lodging, and offer a gift certificate for meals. Tie it all up with a big bow and watch the smile sweep across her face when she sees what you have in store for her with your Mother's Day gift.

Work it off: Mom undoubtedly has a few things around the house and yard that she simply hasn't gotten around to yet. Offer to spend Mother's Day digging a new flowerbed or taking care of household tasks so she has the luxury of spending her day on whatever she enjoys.

A Selection of Good Books: Don't wimp out and offer mom a gift certificate to a bookstore. Show her you know what she likes by presenting her with a basket of books you know she has been dying to read.

If in doubt about which books to buy, ask one of her friends, or strike up a conversation with her about a book she enjoys. Chances are she will mention a couple that she hasn't purchased yet, but is dying to read.
