Showing Moms and Stepmothers Much-Deserved Respect on Mother's Day

Celebrating Mother's Day in a blended family can sometimes feel a bit awkward. Stepparents aren't always a welcome addition to the family, and children often have some sort of hard feelings about the blend.

Being part of a blended family can make for a tough time on holidays. Sometimes children feel they are betraying their real mom by doing something for their stepmother or celebrating a day such as Mother's Day with her. Children often resent the mix and place a separation between them and their step-mother, it's natural.

The fact is - the stepmother is taking on new family members and responsibilities just like you are. It's not easy for them either, especially when they know there is some rejection towards them. They should be given some credit for accepting children that aren't their own and taking on the battle raising step-children can be. It's an emotional venture for them too, believe it or not.

Women and moms are naturally loving and nurturing. Stepmothers want to be accepted as a family member. They realize they aren't the biological mother and that they can't replace her but they yearn to be the second mother that you can count on and go to.

Step-mothers generally contribute to the family and household and they should be recognized as doing so on Mother's Day. You don't have to go to the extent that you might for your biological mother if you don't feel comfortable, but they probably deserve some sort of recognition and appreciation.

Setting yourself aside for a day and giving someone else the recognition they deserve for their efforts says a lot about you and your character. Not many children want to be in a blended family but suck it up for a day and make the best of it. It's hard on them too and you will make their year with any small recognition of them.

A card and flowers are enough to make her happy and note that you are recognizing her on this special day. You don't have to go all out if you don't feel comfortable but this simple gesture will mean the world to her.
