What 2008 Presidential Election Issue is More Important Than Nuclear Proliferation?

Who Will Speak Up?

Somewhere down the line, we missed the memo. Nuclear proliferation slipped right by in the wake of other pressing world concerns. In the current 2008 presidential election, we have yet to hear any candidate discuss nuclear weapons with any kind of detailed plans to work towards a
solution. In the broad scope of the world, nothing could be more important than nuclear proliferation.

Since when is it a non-factor? Senator Obama and Senator Clinton will talk all day about health care, terrorism, and the cost of gas, but where are the discussions about how to prevent nuclear weapons from destroying the planet? Any time it is brought up, it is a simple sound bite, or quick admission that it is a problem that needs to be addressed. Why not lay out your plan for changing it?

Nuclear proliferation is as dangerous today as it has ever been. At any given time, a number of nations including our own have the capabilities of setting off a chain of events that could result in the destruction of human life on our planet. Nuclear weapons should be eradicated from the planet, and the only way this can happen is if we have a leader with the guts to take a global stand on the issue. Nuclear proliferation should scare the pants off of every person walking the Earth today.

When nuclear weapons fall into the background as a topic among the candidates, something is very wrong. I have no idea how Senator Clinton or Senator Obama would implement nuclear proliferation solutions. Sure, we know they are against nuclear weapons along with virtually everyone else. But what will they do about it?

I pray that we address this issue of nuclear weapons before it is too late. The fact that a button could destroy everything is more of a danger to us than any other issue on the planet. We have created the demise of mankind, and now it has fallen into shaky hands at best. Something must be done.

Pam's right. We get so wrapped up in dealing with everyday at-home issues like rising prices that we forget things like this. Thanks for bringing this to light, Rodney!
