Now You Can Fight AIDS in Africa

New Initiative Provides Funds with Products You Buy

You can help eliminate AIDS in Africa just by buying the clothing and other products you enjoy, through a new initiative launched by rock star Bono and other celebrities called (PRODUCT) RED.

It’s a powerful way that individuals can come together to use their consumer dollars to make a difference against AIDS in Africa without worrying about what their governments or other groups will or won’t do in the meantime.

Clothing retailer Gap will introduce its Gap (PRODUCT) RED - a new, limited collection of clothing and accessories for men and women in which half of the profits from sales of the collection will go to The Global Fund to finance programs that help women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa, according to a statement from the company.

"I think it's great that Gap is participating in this campaign, leading the way and giving back in a way that is all too necessary and overdue. This is such a great way to merge fashion and activism," says actor Don Cheadle, one of the celebrities involved in the new (PRODUCT) RED ad campaign. "Hopefully this campaign will help people educate themselves and get them interested about what's happening in the world beyond our own borders. I hope that other companies can look to this campaign as an example for what they can do."

Founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver, (RED) joins business with the buying power of the public to generate a sustainable flow of funds to eliminate AIDS in Africa. To do this, (RED) is partnering with some of the world's most well-known brands including Gap, Converse, Emporio Armani, Apple and Motorola - the first companies to partner with (RED).

Motorola and Sprint announced the upcoming nationwide availability of the RED MOTORAZR V3m, a new wireless phone
designed exclusively to support (RED).

The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is a public-private partnership aimed at providing resources to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

Of course, AIDS or philanthopy isn't enough to get anyone's attention- you need a skinny model with her clothes falling off.

This is an awesome idea. I just heard about RED on CNN in the car. Anything that will help alleviate the AIDS crisis is a good idea.
