The 7th season of American Idol has been filled with many ups and downs including Michael Johns's surprise elimination, the stardom of David Archuleta, and the out of nowhere David Cook. Early on it seemed like David Archuleta already had the win in the bag, but slowly and surely David Cook has risen to the top of American Idol ladder with Archuleta and when the finale comes, he will take the victory and here is why.

Gaining Steam: David Archuleta started out strong with performances like "Another Day in Paradise" and "Imagine". Now that he is on the top, he cannot get much better and while his performances remain much of the same, David Cook continues to grow and improve every week.

He first surprised audiences with his rendition of the pop hit "Hello", and began to do rock versions of other popular pop songs like "Billie Jean" and "Always Be My Baby". Then, during Broadway week, he surprised audiences by not doing a rock theme and just singing the song normally. He continues to improve right up to the finale.

Performances: Not only is he continuing to improve, but his performances are professional and impressive. He has a great rock voice that he uses to his full potential on every track. He did slip up a little bit with his performance on Idol Gives Back of Our Lady Peace's "Innocent", but if you hear the studio version you will hear an impressive, if not better, version of the song.

CD: Before joining American Idol, David Cook self-released an album through Amazon.com. Fans have recently picked up this and propelled his album to the top of Amazon.com downloads. This is proving his success outside of Idol and his ability to have his own CD. As his original music spreads throughout the United States fans will only continue to grow and vote for him as the season goes on.

Judges: David Cook has only had a couple of bad reviews and lately Randy Jackson has been praising him like crazy. As long as the great performances and even better judge reviews hold up, David Cook will be crowned the Season 7 champion.
