Three Signs You Should Leave Your Church

In the late 1960's, a very charismatic man rallied a large following of believers together. He taught them how to read the Bible, pray and worship God. This man's message was so powerful that it even crossed color barriers and helped create one of the few interracial
churches in his area. Sound nice? It was in the early stages, but then things started to go wrong.

This charismatic leader began to misuse his power, read less of the Bible and stray away from mainstream teachings. A segment of his congregation left, but others stayed in the name of trust and loyalty. In the end, these people were the ones who eventually died under the influence of this man. Who was he? Jim Jones.

Jim Jones' story is one retold over and over again. It's a perfect example of faithful believers in God who let their trust in man over rule their judgment. These unfortunate souls didn't know when to leave their church and save themselves. You don't have to be like them. There are three BIG signs that you should leave your church. You should do it when . . .

1. Your minister teaches sermons unsupported by scripture.
Whether your minister is a priest or a pastor, he is not greater than God. So if the word he teaches changes drastically and he tries to convince you he's right and God is wrong, it's time to scram. You don't want to follow any man or woman who doesn't believe in the Bible. It's a sure sign of trouble.

2. Your spiritual growth is stunted over a long period of time.
You should be growing spiritually and learning new things in church on a regular basis. So if you start the year in the same place spiritually and end up in the same place (spiritually) 12 months later, it's time to go find a new church home. For whatever reason, you cannot learn and grow under your current ministry. As a result, you need to find a minister who can light a fire under you and touch you in a special way with his sermons.
