A Visit to the Argo Gold Mine and Mill

I-70 West Colorado

My three school aged kids didn't have school today in Jefferson County and we decided to drive to Idaho Springs to visit a gold mine. We pass several along I-70 West as we drive to Summit County and the kids want to visit each one. I called ahead to make sure that tour hours were regular. In the winter hours are not regular and checking the website and making a phone call is recommended. It is April 25th though and the summer schedule has begun. They are open until 6 pm. The last tour will leave at 4:30. I check the clock, 3 ish. Plenty of time. I ask if the facility is stroller friendly. The answer is no. I decide I can just carry the 18 month old if necessary. After wasting much too much time looking for the camera, and not finding it, we load up and head out.

We drive from Evergreen on I-70 West and take the first Idaho Springs exit. We use this exit to gas up and get Starbucks on our way up the mountain a lot anyway. I continue down the street and see the big red mill but it takes another minute to see where I cross the river to the mill. Upon arriving I immediately wish I did have the camera. The three year old has pulled off her socks and shoes and tattooed her feet with pen. Ah, to be three.
