Many of my friends play online poker as it has increased in players almost every year and still does. However, even if you are a good poker player, I leave you with this little tidbit. Online poker involves a lot more luck than you might think. Online poker sights like Poker Stars are built on random schemes and mathematical sequences in a pattern. So for example, if you watch enough series of flops and boards go by without a certain card coming up, you are bound to hit that card with your next two whole cards.

What am I talking about you might ask? I was finally tired of constantly loosing in poker by horrendous beats like pocket kings against Jack-7. The odds of me winning pre-flop with pocket kings against Jack-7 is around eighty-percent. I have lost hands like this on more fingers than I can count and I wanted to figure out why.

Well the reason my friends lies in this mathematical pattern that poker sights use. You don’t even have to be a good poker player to pick up on it. For instance, let say that you have an Ace and King in your hand and over 20 “boards” have gone by without either a King or an Ace appearing. Well then, it is highly likely that an Ace or King will appear. The chances are far greater than under normal circumstances. A “Board” is defined as the flop, turn and river making up the five cards on the table that the dealer has dealt.

Playing in live game in person gives you the true essence of poker. For example, my friend who went to a casino won $600 and I consider him to be a very good poker player. However, as an online poker player he is in the red and the bad beats I have seen him have are awful. A good poker player can loose his mind playing online.

Now don’t get me wrong, I hear everyday of college kids who make it big online and win enough money to pay for their college education tuition. But this is a rare case and online poker can even lead to slacking off in class and neglecting your job.
