New Swim Clothes
For a boy, pick a pair of trendy new swim trunks. For a girl, include a cute bathing suit. Both boys and girls would appreciate a pair of water shoes for walking on rocky shores. Include a pair of flip flops for wearing to and from the beach and in public changing rooms and bathrooms.
Swim Gear
Besides a suit, most kids like to wear swim goggles. Opt for a quality pair that will seal around the eyes. Some kids prefer goggles that also seal around the nose. Flippers are a fun addition to a gift basket. Younger kids may like a pair of water wings, but remember that these are not a safety device.
Swim Toys
Most public beaches don't allow large inflatable toys because they are a safety hazard, but smaller swim toys are usually acceptable. Find some splash balls that can be used for watery games of catch. Or, include some weighted plastic darts to use for diving practice.
Sand Toys
There are a myriad of sand toys available in stores this time of year. Include sand castle molds, shovels, a bucket, small flags and small rakes. Water wheels are fun and can be used with sand as well as water. Toy dump trucks and back hoes are also fun when they are dedicated beach toys and there is no need to worry about how dirty and sandy they get.
Sun Protection
A trip to the beach just isn't safe without sun protection. Sunscreen, preferably one that is natural, such as California Baby, is a must have for long days at the beach. A floppy hat and a beach cover-up are good natural sun screens that will help minimize the effects of the sun's rays. Include some pure Aloe Vera gel just in case a trip to the beach results in too much sun.
Hydration and Snacks
A water bottle is a must for long days spent outdoors. Consider avoiding plastic and the taste of plastic-infused water by investing in a Kleen Kanteen bottle. These eco-friendly bottles are made of stainless steel, so there is no plastic leaching into the drinking water. Pick snacks that won't melt in the hot sun, but that will be nutritious. Trail mix and dried fruit are good choices.
