Movies in Development Guaranteed to Delight, Offend, Disturb and Even Move You to Violence

DiCaprio as Teddy Roosevelt; Live Action Mulan; Remake of Logan's Run and Raging Bull II?

The list of movies that never got made, or got made in significantly different ways, is endless. For instance, did you know that a script for a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit has been around for well over fifteen years? (Click here
to read the utterly fascinating, disturbing, and depressing story of how a clash of egos between Steven Spielberg and Disney has kept what sounds like one of most amazing scripts of the last fifteen years from not even coming close to being produced.) And as for movies that you saw in a quite different form from they might have been, think about how lucky we are that when Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid airs these days it doesn't feature the other dynamic duo (who were totally wrong for the parts) that producers originally wanted: Marlon Brando and Steve McQueen. Whew, dodged a major bullet there. With the possibility that you may never actually see these movies at a theater, here are a few movies currently in various stages of development at Hollywood studios that could be interesting successes, or even more interesting flops.

The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt.
You know, there was a time when I used to get really excited hearing that Martin Scorsese was attached to a project. (I can remember my jaw actually dropping the first time I read that the next Scorsese movie would featured Robert DeNiro AND Jerry Lewis.) Of course, that was when he was always working with Robert DeNiro. Now that Leonardo DiCaprio is his actor of choice, I just sort of get sick to my stomach when I hear he's working on something. Maybe one day I'll be impressed by DiCaprio; I don't think it's going to be with his performance as TR. As with Howard Hughes, he's just all wrong physically and personality-wise. DiCaprio is smaller than life; why does Scorsese keep wanting him for these roles? Next think you know, DiCaprio will be taking on Orson Welles. This is one that we should probably hope remains in development hell until DiCaprio is too old or Scorsese dies.

Loved your article! wow, an I dream of Jeannnie remake with any of those gals would surely be a flop. I'd love the Forrest Gump sequel. I loved, loved, love that movie. But you are right, only with most of the original cast, no one else would do it justice.

Ugh! I Dream of Jeannie? How on earth are they going to update that one? I hated that show, didn't even find it campy. Loved your title! Glad I finally found this article. I hope I'm getting email notices again. I haven't had time to check today.
