As a busy mother raising seven children, I enjoy celebrating Mother's Day because I finally get to sit down and put my feet up without feeling any guilt whatsoever. In doing so, I like to take the opportunity to reflect on motherhood and what it means to me personally, and find ways to encourage myself to face another year of answering to 'Mom' and putting my own plans aside to cultivate the hopes and dreams of my children.

Share these with your mother, your daughter, your sister or a friend and pray for her to be encouraged.

1. Proverbs 22:6 "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." NIV

As mothers we are the primary influence in the lives of our children and each day is one step toward molding our sons and daughters into the men and women they will become. Godly training must start at a young age, preferably before they are old enough to realize that there could possibly be any other way besides the godly way. As children learn about the world around them, they seldom question the things that have been in place ever since they can remember until they are much older. My children have never questioned why we go to church each week as a family: they only question why we missed one week. They are being trained up in the way they should go, and even if their lives take an occasional detour somewhere down the road, I can rest in the knowledge of God's promise that because I did my part, He will be faithful to do His.

2. 1 Corinthians 13:7 "It [love] always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." NIV

A mother is quick to protect, but sometimes trust comes with more of a struggle, especially when we catch our children in a lie- but in the end it is imperative that we trust those we love. We must remain hopeful for the person our child is becoming and persevere in prayer. We must never give up!

3. Galatians 6:9 "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." NIV
