Moby Performs in Transcendental Meditation Fairfield, Iowa

During the 2008 David Lynch Weekend (April 25-28)

The 2008 David Lynch Weekend (April 25-28) in Fairfield, Iowa, offered a free concert for all on Sunday night at Maharishi University of Management's Grand Assembly Hall. White chairs, color spotlights, three large video screens, and a skirted stage made up the scene for a high-powered musical voyage, hosted by Bob Roth--a spokesman for the Transcendental Meditation (TM) Movement--and populated by 500 townsfolk, which naturally included TM Meditators and TM Sidhas (Yogic Flyers).

Front row and center, David Lynch sat with quantum physicist Dr. John Hagelin and Fairfield Mayor Ed Malloy. Mr. Lynch is a director particularly known for television series Twin Peaks and films Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, and Inland Empire.

The concert opened with Zenphonic, a band fronted by talented singer-songwriter Oceana Gayden. Her lead guitarist is her father, Mac Gayden, who co-wrote with Buzz Cason the 1968 mega-hit Everlasting Love, which was included in the performance--the song is one of the only two songs to ever achieve hit status during every decade since its creation.

Pretty, blonde Oceana started the set with Physicalities of Transcendence, otherwise known as Pot--so she said at the song's end and thus drew the crowd's laughter. She finished the set with a song she had written, a moving and memorable ballad, to which her father had put a Gypsy-Kings-like rhythm. Oceana and her music captivated the crowd. Her entire band exemplifies musical genius. Percussionist Tom Roady is beyond genius. Check them out!

Chrysta Bell was the next performer, with an outstanding band, only just put together, from Austin, Texas. The band began with an instrumental, during which Chrysta slinked onto the stage. With a provocative smile, she gracefully and sexily gyrated next to the poised, long-haired, blond male trumpeter. Her appearance immediately mesmerized the crowd. Then, she sang and the audience became enslaved.
