Living in the Chicagoland area, good food is not difficult to find. From steakhouses to fish markets, my hometown has it all. One of my absolute favorite eateries, however, is a corner store in the town of Cicero, Illinois, located just on the outskirts of the city. Freddy's Pizza, at first glance, does appear to be a neighborhood market and in fact has stocked shelves of pastas, sauces, pepperoni, olives, hot peppers, meats, cheeses, and seasonings. But this famous lunch stop has even more culinary delights to offer and is abundant with genuine Italian specialties.

Freddy's is a bustling venue offering everything from pizza and pastas to Italian ice and gelato. My friends and I visit often for a charming patio lunch and a delectable dessert. Freddy's is one of our favorite pizza choices around town and offers a flaky crust of medium thickness for its square slices and also a deep dish traditional round pie. Their sauce is zesty and toppings include: sausage, spinach, broccoli, olives, pepperoni, green peppers and fresh garlic. We love the fact that Freddy's is one of those neighborhood joints where you can just pop in for a piece of pizza by the slice for just a few bucks. And we savor the delicious deep fried, breaded artichoke hearts for an extraordinary side.

Freddy's features an array of fresh pasta and chicken dishes. My favorite is the penne pasta tossed with crumbled sausage and green peas. Pastas are sold by the pound and an overflowing plate usually costs less than $5.00. We also enjoy the Chicken Vesuvio served with chunky, spicy potatoes and a thick, tangy sauce. We usually eat on site and purchase a few dinners to go. Freddy's menu also advertises octopus, cuttlefish, lasagna, breaded pork tenderloin, Italian subs and meatball sandwiches.
