This holiday season, do not overlook the possibilities of homemade gifts. The holiday season is known as the season of giving and not the season of rack up the credit card debt and worry about it later. Although, this is how many approach the holiday season every year. This year, save some money by making some great homemade gifts for friends and family.

Everyone has a talent. Use this talent to make great homemade gifts for your friends and family. If you are a photographer, consider printing up some of your work and matting and framing it. If you are an artist, consider drawing or painting a picture to give as a gift. Many people are using some form of needlework as a hobby. This may include cross-stitching, embroidery, crewel, or knitting. Any of these talents can be used to make a great homemade gift for friends and family this holiday season. Just be creative.

Enlist your children to help make some creative and fun gifts for family and friends this holiday season. Depending on the age of your child, he or she will enjoy making a homemade gift for Grandma, Grandpa, and even cousin Al. Children love to be creative and the holiday season is a perfect outlet. One of my favorite memories was when I was a child and made some ornaments for my family. All it took was some clear plastic ornament balls and several different colors of acrylic paint. Take the top off the ornament and drip any number of colors of paint into the ornament, just enough to coat the sides. Then shake and swirl with your thumb covering the opening. The paint will create great patterns and your child will have a beautiful ornament to give out and be proud of. Also consider ideas such as painting terra cotta planters and planting a lovely plant or herbs inside. Your child will love to be involved with making the holiday gifts for friends and family.

I love making things for Christmas. I do a treat tray for my husband to take to work (brownies, cookies, muffins, etc.) and for our maintenance men, UPS and USPS guys, etc. They always seem to love it. Plus, I make craft items, jewelry, etc.; whatever I can to still be able to give without spending a fortune. That's important since most of our money goes for mom's care. You shared some wonderful ideas. Thank you!

Yeah to homemade gifts! People need to get away from the Playstations and get back to the good old fashioned basics of giving gifts that require time and effort and not just cash.

So many of us are under the impression that the more money we spend, the better. Thank you for reminding us that homemade gifts from the heart are what really matter!
