If you've tried everything you can at home and your parrot is still suffering behavioral problems, don't despair. Because companion parrots are still so closely tied to their wild ancestors, they can be much more difficult to treat than more traditional domestic pets such as cats and dogs, which have had tens of thousands of years of living with us to become adjusted. In fact, behavioral problems are an issue that is important enough to have spawned a profession Avian Behavioral Consultants
Avian Behavioral Consultants are often, but not always, avian vets and/or breeders who have worked with parrots and other large birds for years and have developed specific techniques to deal with behavioral problems. They have an extensive background and education and have worked with parrots with great success. This is not only their livelihood but their passion. Many parrot owner websites and avian magazines will have listings for avian behavioral consultants.
Avian Veterinarians
Avian Veterinarians may also provide some alternatives for you that go beyond traditional medicines for physical conditions. There are both psychotropic and holistic medications for anxiety and other disorders that have been successful in treating parrots when behavioral approaches haven't worked. Be sure to discuss the side effects and potential long-term health effects of any of these options with your veterinarian when looking into these approaches, and find an experienced, licensed practitioner. Do not be afraid to ask for references.
