Safety Travel Tips Every Senior Must Know

Senior Vacation Warnings from Travel Veterans

1. Get RFID tags for Luggage
Seniors and other travelers spend a fortune on special clothing and jewelry for vacations. Coming back their luggage is full of gifts and souvenirs. Borrow or invest in a GPS tracking or RFID tag for your luggage with the good stuff in it. The airlines services for these purposes are overcrowded and under served. Take aggressive action to make sure your stuff gets home.

Review the policy on lost luggage after it gets to the hotel. How much liability does the travel group or bus charter company assume? If the bags get stolen en route to the airport, who pays? Ebay and third world merch stores routinely sell goods that look like they fell off the back of a truck.

Look at the stalls outside the airport and hotel areas. If the souks are filled with luggage, appliances, converters, and new prepaid phones, chances are there is a well developed market for them. If local economy derives significantly from travelers replacing lost luggage is a foreign country's meat and potatoes.

2. Leave Home Without It
Leave a selection of credit card and bank data and monetary resources at home. Don't allow thieves to jam up personal financial security after the trip. Budget your travel amount for spending and bring a prepaid Mastercard or Visa. They can't take more than that if your wallet and cards are stolen. Suspend activity on savings accounts and delay or suspend all charge activity until you get back. Pipe more money from home if you need it, but only if you need it.

Leave home without the everyday stuff. This includes confidential work papers, computer codes and programs, and work cellphones and Blackberry devices. Technical hackers can use these devices to break into secure systems without your or anybody's knowledge. Bank statements, mail, account numbers and PDA's with your entire life on them should be left turned off and hidden until your return.
