Blog Spotlight: Rebecca Blood
Rebecca Blood an A-list blogger and well known for her book “The Weblog Handbook Practical Advice on Creating and Maintaining your Blog” published by Perseus Publishing in July 2002. This is my interview with Rebecca Blood.
1.You started your blog in April 1999. Why?
I started reading blogs some time during 1998. I just loved them. At the time, weblogs were focused on links, as mine still is. I had created a little resource website for myself that resided on my work computer. When I started working from two different desks, it made sense to put that site onto the Web, and I thought "I'll just start a weblog and see how it goes". So, that site plus the weblog was the first version of my site. I was already sending my friends several links a day in email, so I really just transferred that activity to the Web.
2. How much did you know about blogging,in general, before you started?
Just what I had seen on other people's sites. There were fewer than 50 weblogs when I started, so we really were all just making it up as we went along.
3.Going over your site, it seemed uncluttered, almost Spartan-like, nothing that is not needed, is there. Would you agree with this? If so, did you make a conscious effort to present your blog like that?
I like clean Web design, and each iteration of my site has become a little more spare. It's important to me that I like my site design - it's a representation of me on the Web, and besides, I have to look at it every day!
4.How would you describe your blog?
Link-driven, eclectic, and literate.
5.You write that some of your interests include media literacy, sustainability, and web culture, which can all be linked in some way? But domestic life is also a big interest of yours. You have posts specifically dealing with domestic life like housekeeping. The thing, in my opinion, about media and culture is that it is constantly changing. Yet domestic life exist in a kind of routine. Would you agree? I just wondered if you think a lot about the changeability of the media and the routine of domestic life or am I completely off base?
