David Archuleta's Sweet Caroline, America Not Amazing on American Idol

Hanging in There so Far

Neil Diamond called him a "prodigy." But, that doesn't mean he is ready to win this competition or for a record contract. This week David chose to sing "Sweet Caroline" and "America." Two seemingly great song choices for this young man, but did he live up to the expectations?

"Sweet Caroline" was "sweet" to hear, no pun intended. He made the song his own and showed the true emotion of the song - pure enthusiasm for love. He had an amazing voice as always, but it wasn't an amazing performance.

"America" got rave reviews from the judges, but could have been so much better, given David's talent and ability to connect with a song. He sang it so sweet, but it definitely demands more edge than David gave it. His voice was still wonderful, but the emotion just wasn't there like it was with the first. It came across like a karaoke version you'd hear in a bar somewhere. His voice and personality is just too soft for a hard song. Hopefully next week he can prove himself.

While he does have an amazing talent with his singing, his competition is two fold. First Syesha Mercado, who has really come out of her shell and is rising to the top. Second, but certainly not least, David Cook will have to be met in the ring by Archuleta eventually for Archuleta to remain in the competition to the finale. All three have great voices, but having emotional connections and the ability to have the softness and the edge when needed is absolutely essential in winning the American Idol competition - David is soft, but can he get that edge?

David Archuleta has an amazing voice and people should stop criticizing him. He already has enough stress as it is. No wonder he isn't smiling anymore. I think he did great on both songs! When he sings slow songs, some people criticize him for being one dimensional, while when he sings upbeat songs, they say that it doesn't suit him.I think that it's a bit contradictory. I think he will win because he really connects with the audience when he sings. David A. for the win!

I think David Archuleta did great on Neil Dimond night. I just don't understand why people criticize him for singing slow songs and then when he sings upbeat songs, they say it doesnt suit him. People should stop being so harsh on him. I think he has an amazing voice and that he expresses the emotion of the song when he sings it. I loved both of his songs on Neil Dimond night. He looked a little happier that night and he will win American Idol! Go David!

It's a bit hilarious seeing that you stated that David Archuleta made both of the songs his own, and that he has a great voice, but didn't perform in an amazing way. While singers do have off nights (they are human), he absolutely did not have an off night. I thought he sang both songs excellent, especially America. Neil Diamond is a star, seeing that he has sold over 120 million records worldwide, and he wasn't wrong by calling David Archuleta a prodigy. I completely disagree with your comment on David Archuleta not being ready to win the competition and to be the next American Idol, surely there are still weeks to come, but every week he has proven to the judges, and to the world that he has what it takes. It should be between the two David's, no doubt about that.

We love David Archuleta as a singer and as a person. With DA, what you see is what get, there is no pretense in him. He knows who he is, what he wants to sing and how he wants to deliver the message through his songs. We feel the emotion through the sweetness of his voice and that is why we are looking forward to seeing him on AI every week. He has a face, a voice and a heart of an Angel. Unlike his biggest competitor (i.e, DC), DA does not have to do the followings: 1) copy other performer's song arrangement, 2) talking back to the judges to get more points, 3) copying other's people hair style/look to get more fans, 4) jumping up and down and showing off to others that he was better than anyone else, and 5) whining to the media that it was not fair for other fellow contestant to receive more attention from the judges than he does. DA GOT TALENTs AND ORIGINALITY while his competitor does not. For us, he got what it takes to be an AI. Whether he wins or not, he is our AI this ye

Why in the world does Archie even need to have edge???? Syesha isn't edgy.... and David Cook is because it's the kind of music he sings... David A is great in his own right... It's tough enough to sing older songs by a legend, and it's not exactly the kind of music David normally sings, so I definitely give him props for pulling through it and still sounding great.. and I thought his performances were just fine... I like seeing him sing the slower emotional songs because I really feel what he's singing, but that's just my taste (and I'm young). And I'm glad syesha is coming out of her shell a bit, but I still feel no connection when she sings... she has a great voice, yes, I agree, but I feel nothing from her when she sings... David Archuleta has SOOOO many roads he can go follow - he'd be great at teen music, pop, inspirational, soul music, just about anything.... he's very versatile and when he records a CD, I know people will get to see that even more!

David ARchuleta does not need at this point to prove to anybody that he has an incredible talent and voice. For some of you who did not think he was perfect again, give this young man a break will you? He has been the only one that has been consistent and delivered each and every week (needless to say he spents 3-4 hours a day, still going through school work). The judges think he is a bomb because he is. David Cook has not been that consistent the only consistency I see with David Cook is that he changes the songs around and shouts louder and louder every week after each song...geeeeeeeeeeeeez. David Archuleta should win American Idol this year. He is an incredible young talent, with incredible focus, voice and needless to say who can resist that adorable face and smile. We need more teen American idol role models, the ones that do not already have CDs out on sale like David Cook. David Archuleta does not only attract the teen and younger generation votes but some of the older generat

David Archuleta was definetly the best in my opinion. I think he sang both songs incredibly with a lot of enthusiasm. He is by far my favourite and WILL win American Idol!!! Go David A. !!
