Halloween Charity Event at Munster Mansion, Waxahachie, Texas
As the time of Halloween festivities rapidly approaches, most of us have set our minds to planning. We plan the perfect costume, the perfect party, the perfect fright. However, as the years come and go, it does become a little tougher to come up with a “new plan”.
I am looking forward to a few parties, but it’s all the same at my age. As for a costume, i’m thinking a devil, only because I haven’t been a devil since I was 8. If I stay the course, next year I’ll be repeating as Yoda. That should be a hoot.
I may have found our salvation, however, my scary friends. I’ve stumbled upon what is perhaps the coolest Halloween haunt around and I just had to share it with the boos and ghouls. If you want a spooky new adventure this year, take a drive down to 1313 Mockingbird Lane in Waxahachie, Texas.
Waxawhachie… you say? Yeah, I know, hard to say, but not hard to find. Located just 30 miles south of Dallas near interstate 35-East, you’ll find the home of Charles and Sandra McKee. Now what’s so special about the McKee house? Why would I send you there, you ask? Well, not to put to fine a point on it, the McKee’s live in the Munster Mansion.
Yes, you heard me. Starting in November of 2002, the McKee’s broke ground and raised a few eyebrows by building a near exact replica of the spooky 1960’s Munster house. The almost 6,000 square foot home was modeled after Herman and Lily Munster’s house. Now you can’t go get the blueprints for a house like this in Southern Living. Nope, Charles and Sandra watched and studied all 70 Munster’s episodes and drew up their own custom plans to erect the creepy, gothic inspired home. Furnished with antiques galore and all of those scary little knickknacks that make a house a home, the Munster Mansion is dead on.
