Maintaining an optimal weight is crucial to good health. Current research is showing that cancer, alzheimer’s, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a host of other health issues are linked to what we eat… or don’t eat.

Regardless of what you see on TV, there’s no healthy way to lose 20 pounds in 10 days. Most of the products offered don’t work, and no one knows for sure what the side-effects are. Like anything worthwhile, losing weight will take some work. But it doesn’t have to be difficult.

My wakeup call…

This past summer, when I went to the doctor for my check up, I weighed in at 199 pounds. It was the heaviest I’d ever been, and I was beginning to panic, because I didn’t ever want to go over 200. But it loomed before me and I knew if I didn’t do something I was going to start having some serious health issues.

By accident, I stumbled on a solution that worked well for me.

I went to the Michigan’s Womyn’s Music Festival in early August. During the week-long camping, I only ate the food that was provided, which was entirely vegetarian and caffine-free. In addition, I did a lot of walking from my campsite to the various workshops and music stages. I was probably walking about two miles a day. Within a few days I was already able to feel a difference. I wasn’t feeling sluggish and I didn’t suffer from heartburn. And, best of all, my clothes weren’t as tight as they had been. When I returned home, people remarked that they could tell that I had lost some weight. And, sure enough, when I stepped on the scale, I had lost five pounds. It’s now early October, and since August, I have lost 20 pounds. That’s 20 pounds in two months! I feel great… and it really boosts my ego when people tell me how good I look since I’ve started losing weight. All this has made me more committed than ever to getting to my ideal weight.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

Takeaways
  • Eat breakfast. Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. Reduce the amount of red meat you eat.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • And, get some moderate exercise.
Did You Know?
Caffeine actually causes your metabolism to decrease.
