I realize, the virginal, white wedding gown has lost its tradition, but that wasn't always the standard. The white wedding gown was often a status symbol; the wealthier the brides family was, the whiter the gown. Now that it is 2008, you'd think more brides wouldn't still be wearing white; remember there are seven colors in a rainbow. Whatever happen to the unconventional wedding?

Of course the professional wedding planner may tell you, never to buy a wedding gown that is not white or cream colored; whatever happened to individuality? Though I am far from being married, my preference would certainly not be a big white wedding gown that resembles an overgrown cotton ball; but if that's what you want, then so be it! What's wrong with wearing a red gown, yellow or black or even blue, in fact why does it need to be a gown at all, why not a plain old simple dress, that skims a little below the knees?

Trust me when you're under five-foot-three, you'd be better off by not following tradition! Once upon a time when I was younger, I too wanted a big white wedding, but then I grew older, and realized, fairytales don't always come true, and there is no such person as prince charming; that's what happens sometimes after you become a mystery/horror writer. Though it may sound somewhat cynical, I'm not in a hurry to get married, or be otherwise, but I do still sometimes envision what my wedding will bring; my dress wouldn't be a gown with a long train that may trip me as I walk down the aisle, or a veil that is too thick to see through; skip the veil entirely, the memory of my graduation cap still haunts me; I fidgeted with it through the entire, ceremony, I guess that's what you get when you graduate on Friday the 13th!

Blue with specks of silver, not too long, and not too short; now that sounds like the kind of dress I wouldn't mind wearing on my wedding day, let's face it, white has never been one of my favorite colors, and when you are as short as I am, I would only disappear into the gown! Socially I may be invisible, but I'm sure no bride wants to be a deemed a missing person on her wedding day!
