If you think you have to go to Pennsylvania for a chocolate-coated vacation, think again! New York is home to some of the finest chocolate in the world. So grab your gear, hit these spots and enjoy some of the best chocolate confections around!

Jacques Torres Chocolate Haven

350 Hudson At King Street

New York, NY 10014

(see website for other locations)

Website: www.mrchocolate.com

Frenchman Jacques Torres crafts heavenly confections at his chocolate haven. There is nothing pre-processed at Torres' establishments - the chocolate is created on site, starting with the choicest cocoa beans. Visitors can watch the transformation - from bean to chocolate using vintage machinery - through a glass barrier. Be sure to take home some of the delicious, moderately priced treats Torres has to offer.

Kee's Chocolates

80 Thompson Street

New York, NY 10012

Website: www.keeschocolates.com

Founded by Kee Ling Tong in 2002, this little shop hasn't lost touch with its roots. Visitors to Kee's Chocolates can watch the chocolates being made through a storefront. The confections here must be bought in person, and the shop is not open for business on Mondays.

Martine's Chocolates

400 East 82nd Street

New York, NY 10028

Website: www.martineschocolates.com

The treats at Martine's are crafted daily, and truly an international delight, with Belgian chocolate, French butter and American cream. Visitors can watch the chocolate creations being made in the store. They will even create personalized chocolate figurines upon request.

If you're serious about catching all of the chocolate fun that New York has to offer, you might want to consider one of the "chocolate tours" available through a company called Viator. They offer a Luxury Chocolate Tour and a New Cuisine Chocolate Tour for a reasonable price, and they get you behind the scenes when it wouldn't otherwise be possible.
