The Rose Man in Duluth, Minnesota: A Store Review
Long Stem Roses Are Cheap at the Rose Man in Duluth, MN
Last week was our Anniversary, as my wife has said numerous times, "You can't go wrong with roses". I don't buy flowers very often, but when I do I just can't afford the arm and a leg required to order flowers through a florist, and have them delivered. I love my wife, but sheHe's been there for many years, this ridiculous little pink building, hardly 12'x12', it looks more like an old shed then anything. His only advertising is black lettering painted on the roadside wall of the building indicating "Roses" with a small sign on a peg indicating how much per dozen. A few year back he sold roses at $6 a dozed, but inflation has hit the Rose Man as it has everyone else.
The standard price, during periods of no special occasion, is $10. When we approach a holiday such as Mother's Day as we are now, the price jumps up somewhat. Today the price is $12, as we get to the last day or so before the holiday I 'm sure the price will take another jump of a dollar or two. Still a bargain as compared to what a florist would charge.
There is no parking lot, you have to take a dive from the rush hour traffic on Central Entrance to what ever spot you can. I jumped the curbed and landed in the small area of gravel around the corner just off the main drag. Entering the store, it is obvious he doesn't waste money on a bunch of fancy do dads. The store is just well aged rough wood, with a glass front cooler on one side and a small service counter with a stack of green tissue paper along side a cash register.
The gentleman that took care of me was friendly and indicated "Help your self to what ever you like, they're all $10 a dozen. I was surprised as I expected my options to be red roses, or red roses, or maybe some red roses.
