Lake George is a historic and scenic area situated in the Adirondack Mountain Region. From the bustling village to the surrounding areas, there's always plenty to do and see. If you're considering a trip to Lake George, here are some ideas to help you plan your vacation.

Lake George Steamboat Company

If you'd like to relax for a few hours on the waters of Lake George, consider taking a boat tour with Lake George Steamboat Company. My personal recommendation is to take a lunch or dinner cruise on the Lac du Saint Sacrament. You can enjoy your meal, enjoy some music and dancing and then wander out to the decks to take in the breath taking scenery of the lake. If you have an interest in paddle wheels, take a cruise on the Minne-Ha-Ha.

Fort William Henry

For the lover of all things historic, plan on a visit to Fort William Henry. This fort has a famous history around the mid 1700s in the French and Indian War. It was also the fort that was featured in James Fennimore Cooper's novel "Last of the Mohicans". The public is welcome May through October.

If you have an interest in the fort due to Cooper's work, be sure to check out Coopers Cave in nearby Glens Falls. This cave so inspired Cooper that he incorporated it into his famous novel. There is a viewing platform situated under the Coopers Cave Bridge located between South Glens Falls and Glens Falls.

Prospect Mountain

If you'd like to get away from the tourist crowd for a bit, venture over to Prospect Mountain to enjoy the beautiful views that Lake George has to offer. Hike the trails to the top and get a little closer to nature. If hiking doesn't interest you, the summit can also be reached by a drive up the road.

Six Flags Great Escape

If getting close to nature isn't really your thing, take the family and spend the day at Six Flags Great Escape. Great Escape offers over a hundred rides and attractions. Whether you want to ride some roller coasters or cool off in the water park, your family is sure to have a good time.
