One of the greatest inventions to come about in the wonderful world of cooking and appliances was the slow cooker, also known as the crock pot.  There really is nothing more convenient to make healthy and filling meals in than a slow cooker.  The possibilities are truly endless when you are using the beautiful appliance.  You can make just about any part of a meal including main dishes and desserts with a crock pot.

While you are using a slow cooker and loving every hour of it, there are some very important things you need to keep in mind.  When you are cooking meat, you will need to be much more cautious than you would be if you were to cook it quickly on the stove or on the grill.  The temperatures of the meat need to be within a certain range and that can be very tricky to control when you are using a slow cooker.  There are just a few tips that could be very helpful in making the experience you have with your slow cooker a fabulous one.

If you choose to use a slow cooker to cook meat to save time or to make the meat tender, it is best not to cook something such as a whole chicken.  If you are cooking a whole chicken or a larger piece of meat in the slow cooker, the time that it takes the slow cooker to cook through the whole piece of meat may take far too long, allowing time for the meat’s temperature to far exceed what the healthy recommendation is.  This is also why it is very important that while you are cooking different kinds of meat in your crock pot, that you adhere to the times recommended for the dish that you are making and that you keep the lid on the slow cooker at all times.
