Inner Ear Infections like Labyrinthitis Can Cause a Person to Appear to Be "Stumbling Drunk!"
My wife after 22 years of marriage recently recovered from a severe inner ear infection. After she became afflicted with this minor illness called Labyrinthitis, only after a few short hours, she was "running into the walls and stumbling like a Drunk!" Ironically, she works as a
restaurant server and the managers were completely "stunned" by her sudden actions.
The managers of this restaurant know for a fact that my wife does NOT drink or use drugs. Apparently she had suffered from a Viral Infection caused by a previous upper respiratory infection that she had suffered from months before as told by the emergency room staff and doctors, and did NOT completely heal.
After she stumbled into the walls, the restaurant manager took her into her office and asked her "What is wrong with you?" My wife replied: "I don't Know?" The manager sent her home and I later took her to the emergency hospital room. Apparently, this mild illness and NOT life "threatening illness" can come over a person within a few hours and there is "Nothing you can do?" except to just "ride it out" the way you with a common cold.
However, if you or someone you know has experienced these same symptoms and has suffered a recent or past head injury. The hospital staff would strongly suggest taking this person to the emergency room immediately for further test and observation, and this could be a possibly be a reason for this "dizziness" as stated by the emergency room medical staff. Luckily, in my wife's case, the doctor found that she had a viral infection, which can sometimes cause an inner ear infection.
There is NO cure for this illness because it is similar to the common cold, and anti-biotics can NOT help. The emergency room doctor prescribed Antivernt, which is used for Vertigo or "Dizziness" and also suggested taking antihistamines for sinus congestion to relieve the fluids in her sinus cavity, which originally made her so dizzy and loosing her balance to stand up.
