Federally Effected

Personally Effected

He held Federal Convictions and a lot of time
I held a power of attorney and his life became mine

INTERPOL's top list with warrants and he was Federally wanted
DEA and ROPE'S Bounty Hunters, it was me that they haunted

I wanted to help but crumbled with uncertainty

Detectives were rough and I was alone just with me

I learned far too much and became too comfortable
with guns, badges, searches and dogs while living so portable

Busted last time internationally in cuffs
14 kilo's to declare, it was going to be tough

But now at 55 half of his life lived in hell
He had been effected, disciplined, spent waiting in cells

Parole tightened their leash, not so long past
He pissed dirty and they took him down hard and fast

He Ran, able to get away

When on the run he waited for the inevitable
The calmness I witnessed to me was incredible

Later, in private when he would cry
He admitted and feared most that I did lie

The only threat I ever did hear
Was who ratted him out as he knew they were near

His Bong and pipes had served him well
Little effects from usage could you even tell

Never showed fear or panic, not paranoid
Slightly cautious, he had to be suspicious, and didn't enjoy

The system had taught him as he grew older
To be harder, colder his own trained soldier

I believe crime does not pay
But it's the non reforming jails that breed today

Does our punishment fit our crime
how can a broken old man do anymore time

He took his hits, plays and dares
Earned quick respect because he didn't care

It hit me one visit babysat by two guards
Who deserves what violence inside taken to the yard

Thin and white his wolf eyes looked broken down
Hardened, colder and silent i found

And then an inmate, child molester
Walked right in, serving less time, with less pressure

I could have killed him myself i didn't know
No segregation now exists and violence inside just grows

How could he not be institutionally effected
When the rest of society judged him and stamped him rejected

Cartel and top layer of Organized Crime
We pay for our mistakes but he is a close friend of mine

Facing deportation after 35 years
Columbia bound in cuffs he fears

You're right, the punishment for alot of crimes doesn't fit . I agree. What you said about the child molester. People like that, I say lock them up and throw away all keys to let them out, or kill them on the spot. I guess someone could argue that a child molester could change but it's like one of those things you have to see to beleive. But I know that anybody who is truly sorry for a wrong they did deserves to be forgiven. That's not to say you should just forget about the pain they caused. There's a difference between forgiving and forgetting. But still, I say lock them away for life or kill them, thats just my opinion. Sorry, I'm babbeling. Nice poem on this subject.

Great perspective on a sometimes subjective system of criminal justice.

etc. Sober, I want the crap off the street and pray to the same Lord that normal, law-abiding citizens pray to. And upon release from state custody, am expected to have the same responsibilities as those who have no drug trafficking record to hinder employment and safe living accommodations. Sorry about the ranting :)

I am speechless, Kim. The lifestyle, the pressure, the fear, the calm, the portable life... you hit the nail on the head. PenPress mentioned celebrities who get away with so much, and I agree there seems to be partiality in our justice system, but this is the thing: it isn't just celebrities getting away with less time. What was said about the child molester being punished less harshly than a drug trafficker is true for all courts. Kill someone? Take the life sentence and be paroled with good behavior in about 4-8 years. Be caught with 28 grams and it's a mandatory 10/3 with no work release programs, no SAP programs (the DOC substance abuse program) and no road crew work or traveling beyond the wall for any reason. Seems to me that we should keep molesters and killers behind the wall and not allow THEM work release programs. The reality is, however, if you catch a trafficking charge you are the worst of the worst. And many addicts like myself dealt drugs in order to support their habit
