I have traveled between the US and the UK many times in the past 30 years. Over those years, the planes seem a little quieter, the seats more comfortable and amenities are a little better. The food is, well - airline food though the number of ethnic food options has increased. to the point that folks can order meals nutritionally and/or religiously balanced for those following diabetic, gluten-free or Hindu diets for example. The major change as I am sure most are aware is in the security screening process however, many will not be prepared for just how onerous and harrowing a journey through the Heathrow security area can be. The UK now has among the most stringent and restrictive criteria for carry-on items anywhere in the world. It has actually been even worse following a foiled security incident where passengers were required to put a handful of carry-on items in a clear plastic bag devoid of any liquids, lotions and pastes. They are now back to a single carry-on bag that still has to undergo significant scrutiny.
