Fantastic Rainy Day Art Projects for Preschoolers

Need a few art project ideas for the little ones in your life? There are lots of fun art projects for the preschool age, most simple enough that you probably have the supplies right now. Round up the munchkins and grab Daddy's old tee shirt, it's time to have some fun and get messy.

Kids love messy and they love simple. If you get to complicated or make to many rules, they aren't gonna want to participate.

Finger Painting-This is an art project that kids really enjoy and of all the ideas I've done with preschoolers, this has always been their favorite. Finger paints are available where ever paints are sold, but you could use acrylics in a pinch, just be prepared for the extra scrubbing it will take to get it off of little fingers. Any kind of paper will work, although, paper with a slick surface will help prevent extra diligent fingers from mutilating the fibers. There's just something about that slippery gooey mess that puts kids in a trance.

Pudding Painting-Mix up your child's favorite instant pudding and let them paint a Picasso with it. If they eat a little it's no big deal and it will amaze them that you are actually letting them play with their food. To save your sanity later, lay their art project masterpiece on parchment paper to dry. This will prevent it from sticking to a table or counter and it will peel right off the parchment paper. You can even save the paper to use again for other sticky projects.

Marble Painting-Set up a box with the bottom the same size as your paper. Don't over think this. Either cut the paper down to size or cut the box down. Lay the paper in the bottom of the box. Set up a small dish of paint for each color you want to use. You can use tempura paints, acrylic paints, or even finger paints. Let your child choose which colors to use and drop a marble in each dish. Using a spoon (this isn't finger painting) stir the marble, fish it out and drop it in the box with their paper. Have them gently rock the box back and forth and side to side until they are satisfied with their results. They may want to add another color or two. Simply wash off the marbles and drop in another color of paint.
