I know the hot topic surrounding Alex Rodriguez is that he should be traded to the Cubs, but I don't think that is the best or most likely route for the option for the Yankee slugger to take.

While A-Rod is more likely to remain a Yankee than he is to be traded, it certainly would not be beyond the realm of doubt for him to be traded. Afterall, his dreaded playoff performances have been haunting him during his past three years in New York City. And it doesn't seem as if the fans will ever forgive him for…well, I'm not exactly sure what he has done to hurt them so much. He's been there for 3 years. The Yankees haven't won in six. But since A-Rod hasn't fixed the Yankees' World Series problems, I guess it's his fault.

Thus a lot of us believe that A-Rod needs a fresh start. So where should he go?

The Cubs? Going to Chicago is the current flavor of the week for A-Rod's trade destinations since Lou Pinella was just hired as the team's manager. But the trade factor really wouldn't work here. The Cubs aren't that good, so clearly they don't have to trade. Their best commodity is Carlos Zambrano, and I personally don't think that the Yankees would be content with just a pitcher for what is quite possibly the best player of all-time.

The Angels? From the public's point of view, L.A. would be the perfect fit for A-Rod's personality. He is a flashy guy, who thinks he's good looking and he certainly is extremely rich, so LA-LA land would be perfect for him. The Angels have the money, but will they spend it? Probably not.

The White Sox? A-Rod could head to the South-Side of Chicago, but would he be welcomed. Ozzie Guillen has made some negative comments about the Yankees' slugger, and A-Rod may not be up for dealing with the controversial manager. Guillen would be sure to call out A-Rod if he were to go into a slump of some sort, and according to the September issue of Sports Illustrated, clearly A-Rod does not adapt well to tough love.

So what's the answer?

How about the Yankees send A-Rod just 99 miles away…to the City of Brotherly Love!

Burrell would play DH and Giambi would move back to first. Abreu, Damon and Matsui would start in the outfield. Burrell has 61 homers in the last two seasons, and if they throw in Gavin Floyd and even a past minor leaguer from the abreu trade the yankees might like the deal. But it's all speculative. Cause the Yanks want to keep A-Rod.

On what planet is .258 acceptable? The NL as a whole hit .265 last year and the Phillies home park is one of the top hitter-friendly parks in the league. And if a mediocre OFer is the last thing the Yankees need, a 36 yr old crappy SP has got to be the next lowest priority. If you want to get A-Rod to Philly, you better start with Cole Hamels.

Yeah, I'm not sure anyone wants Burrell either. Especially not the Yankees their outfield is already full wtih Matsui, Damon and Abreu and DH is taken unless they can find some morons to take Giambi.

OK - back away from the blog. Nobody - not even the Phillies - wants Pat Burrel. And Lieber's ERA was close to A-Rod's salary this year. Why don't the Yanks just trade A-Rod for a box of Cracker Jacks and a lifetime pass on the Benjamin Franklin Bridge?
