Review: Stockade Hotel in Baton Rouge, Louisianna

If you ever find yourself in the capital city of Louisiana, Baton Rouge, for business or pleasure then you of course have your pick of options for where to stay. The Stockade in Baton Rouge is a bed and breakfast which is located on the historic Highland Road area near a number of popular local attractions. You are near so much history and so much of the present day including spots in the surrounding downtown and more current episodes like the campus of LSU. While the name is military in origination, from the area's Civil War past, the present and future of a place like The Stockade Bed and Breakfast is designed with their guests in mind and is set to pure comfort.

You definitely need to make a point of talking to the headmistress, innkeeper, and excellent all around citizen of Baton Rouge, Janice DeLerno when you are planning your stay at The Stockade. Ms. DeLerno is very hands on and is sure to get you all the information you could possibly process. For a learner like me though, it was the perfect set up. I only wish I'd had more time to spend touring all the spots she'd mentioned to me. After visiting her property and hearing all her glowing praise for Baton Rouge and the area around her world, I've made a point to come back out and stay with her again in a more pronounced and focused way this next time just so I can visit some of what she's told me about.

When it comes to the inn itself though, The Stockade is built in the Spanish hacienda-style and there are six guestrooms to choose from. This property is named after its military origins and is actually listed on the National Registration of Historic Places for its value as an archaeological site.

Part of a wooded, 30 or so acres of land, the property is actually home to the original Stockade Cemetery. Converted into an inn after its purchase in 1994, the bed and breakfast itself is situated on a high river bluff which was once where the mighty Mississippi River flowed.
