I have never been in the situation of being disabled. However, I have a former student that is paralyzed through 90% of his body. He works in his home from his computer seven days a week. His is a very sad story. He was bow hunting and fell out of his deer stand. Lucky for him, he told people where his stand was located and he was found. Once he got his situation resolved, that he would spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, he decided to adopt to his situation. Since he made that commitment, he has done very well financially.

I am convinced that there are thousands of individuals in America that would do the same, if they had the opportunity. One major tool that has really helped is the personal computer. Before it came along, individuals would be relegated to doing work at home jobs by hand.

Employers have a hard time trying to help handicapped individuals. It is not that they don't want to help, it is that they find it rather expensive to their business or they just don't have a safe place for a person to work.

My friend told me that instead of looking for a handout, he was going to set up his own business within his own bedroom. He had his sisters build him a unique work station by the window in his bedroom. As a matter of fact, I have adopted his concept for my writing job with Associated Content.. The main key to his success is upgrades. One day every two weeks, he spends half a day at improving things around him. It could be anything from downloads on his computer to switching the curtains on his window. Sometimes nothing is done. He tells me that you just have to take the time and force yourself to improve your environment. This seems trivial to many but, to him it is essential to his work station or area.

He also has established several streams of income flow to his Paypal account. Some is residual income.

I know that there are many disabled individuals that would love to be able to help their own situations out. That is what I hope to do with this article.

Excellent article! I love your advise - change your attitude. We all need to keep that basic rule in mind. Upgrading your environment - that's a great idea. I need to do that. I can see how changing your environment or upgrading your computer can help keep your in a postive mind frame. Great job!

Great article. I think people would be amazed at how much the internet is a haven and source of income for people with disabilities. Don't forget ones local BVR at helping to find or create suitable employment. It was a read I enjoyed. The only part I had difficulty at was stop pitying yourself. Every person who has lost their identity will go through, and need to go through a stage of grief. But it is important to encourage them that they can pick back up, maybe on a new path. The way its said can make a great difference for a disabled person. I look forward to other articles!
