Let's go;

What is Dear Addict?

A weekly column on Mondays with a variety of recovery and educational subject matter that focuses on the solutions for anyone who is or has been directly effected in some way by the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction. Take what helps and leave the rest. Recovery is a Personal, Individual Journey and different for everyone.

Dear Addict lives through your participation and comments, through your input and suggestions, in an open, safe and, if desired, anonymous forum. Identities are irrelevant.

If you are suffering from addiction or someone you care about is, you're home. We're here to share with each other our experience, strength and hope.

Recovery is possible, but not alone. Talk to me, talk to each other, talk to us. Just talk. (and no talking to yourself doesn't count - I know, I tried that one a lot)

If you read no further, than HEAR this; you are NOT alone, I repeat you are NOT alone, I promise.

Finally, we're here, starting to make a difference, together. Thanks to you.

Where is Dear Addict

First, there is my email at dearaddict@gmail.com where you can direct your comments/questions and any news good or bad. You've definitely inspired me to try and do something similar to what you're doing. Although I've never been addicted to any drugs, hardcore anyway, I grew up in a home with two alcoholic parents, seen things I shouldn't have at that age, and my uncles were both addicted to a number of drugs. Pretty much anything they could get their hands on. Your writing is great and you look great. Keep up the good work!

The power of giving holds no boundaries for its results. Kimberly Gray - I am so very proud of you. You just made my day with this great news and knowing you have touched another person's life with your compassion and your strength to choose life over addiction. You were the first to recognize that it takes a community of love and support to help others and you found your community in AC and the Internet. I am honored to be a small part of your community. I am humbled by your thanks. Best wishes,Aly.

I need to say out loud - really loud Yahooooooooooooo It's working and it brought joyful tears to my eyes last night when I got another distressed email - we talked on the phone I gave lots of support phone numbers and even if he doesn't use them for another year, guess what, he now knows he is not alone and recovery is possible. That's the miracle. But I must add, Aly if not for your support and help exposing this article wider that man may never have got the message - girl bless you thank you so very much and Casey is living and helping directly through you. Final point - do you see how it's everyone that's helping - not just one - he even commented on the comments right here on this page -he couldn't believe the compassion and support which he too deserves :-)

How amazing of you to put this out there to help inspire others. It must have taken so much strength and courage to not only overcome this, but to decide to share your story and help others.

First, my congratulations to you. Second, you are stunningly beautiful, and I'm glad you're taking better care of yourself. Lastly, as a musician, I know all too well about living with addiction. fortunately, cigarettes and a little smoke n' beer was as far as it ever went for me. However, many of the boys I still jam with have severe addiction issues; mostly with shit like Valium, Hydros, Xanax and OC. Almost every one of them can hold a good job, but many of them lost their marriages, and even their kids. We all still hang out at our bros and still jam each week (I honestly believe the MUSIC is actually keeping some of them alive). Keep on fighting to keep what you've regained in life, darlin'. You indeed have our prayers and support. God bless you!
