Pampers Gifts to Grow Program: Rewards or Ripoff?

With Pampers offering new lower prices on their diapers, the amount of users will surely increase. Both new and seasoned users will be happy to learn that Pampers is now offering a new program to reward their loyal users, named Gifts to Grow.  The Gifts to Grow program allows
consumers the opportunity to collect points from their products and bank them on-line.  Once the consumer banks enough points, they can redeem them for various prizes from books and movies to a scooter or tricycle.

What many Pampers customers may not realize, if they did not read the fine print, is that shipping and handling charges may be applied.  This may not seem bad until one finds out how high the shipping and handling charges are.  A simple board book carries a shipping charge of $3.35. The same book retails for $4.99 at Barnes & Noble.   While there are more valuable prizes as your points increase, the shipping and handling charges increase along with them.  A basic Bob the Builder DVD will cost the Gifts to Grow user $5.41 to receive.  The movie can be purchased for $10.55 at Video Universe.

The biggest reason I am rating the Gifts to Grow rewards program a ripoff is because the website will not tell you how much shipping and handling charges are on the items until you have enough points to redeem them.  Many users are banking their points for the bigger ticket items to find that after all their time and effort, they are rewarded with an item that cost them as much as it would during a good sale.

I have saved all codes for a year and spent the time entering every code on-line.  My reward for my time and energy is a Dora and Boots at Play Park Lego set which I can have shipped to my home for $8.13.  If I had not spent a year of my time on this program, I could buy the same set from Lego's website for $19.99 using an on-line code for free shipping.  So my total reward for a year of saving is $11.86.  Reward or Ripoff: you decide.

How is it a rip off if you have to buy diapers anyway? I love pampers, they're the only ones I can use. So I'd be buying them anyway. This is just a cherry on top for the time being.

NOT A RIPOFF AT ALL!! i enter the codes and so far over a year and a half ive earned probably 40+ dollars in gift card rewards. i've never had to pay shipping so just be smart on what you cash in your rewards for. dont get things that require shipping costs. how hard is it to enter codes anyway...i manage to do it just fine with two kids and other things going on in my life. dont do it if you are going to complain about it, no one forced you to get a reward.

Ripoff, definitely. I spent a lot of time entering codes. for large boxes of diapers and wipes you have to enter 8 different codes versus 1 code for the entire box. When I finally tried to redeem, I was livid about the shipping. What kind of "gift" have you ever received that you had to pay for your own shipping. Marketing Ploy is all the program is. Don't waste your time.

Ms. Wettin, I agree with you 100%. Thank you for putting in words the frustation of many Pamper's customers about the shipping cost on this program. It Reminds me of the "Trojan Horse"! Greek gifts anyone?

I am not brand loyal, but I've gotten a few things over the years. I do agree that S/H is high and if you really add up the cost of the diapers it isn't a great return, but considering that the company doesn't have to have a rewards program, it is better than nothing. I recently received a Cheerios coupon and a onesie with my points I had left.

I'm very happy with the program. I accumulate points and then wait for the items that have free shipping to appear. The shipping is free because instead of the item, a coupon is mailed. These are offered once every few months. The items I get are coupons for are free packages of Pampers diapers and Cherios cereal. Yes, Pampers are expensive. But if you're brand-loyal or, like me, get them when the price is right, a free pack or box of cereal is a nice perk. If you don't have enough points for anything free once baby is potty-trained, well, donate them to a charity (usually offered around the holidays).

I purchased pampers for 3 years now, my daughter is 3 years old and my son is 9 months. I finally cashed out my points but was very upset to find that the item I have been working so hard to save up points for is no longer available. I swore by the Pampers brand and even told every new parent (at babyshowers and such) Pampers was the way to go. But recently my baby boys pampers have been leaking. I'm so disappointed that I'm considering switching brands. Also, agree on the shipping costs, might as well go for a gift card...there is no cost to that :)

I got huge Lego Knight Castle toy that cost $199 for 200 points a while back and paid $14 shipping. I cannot complain about this. Great toy, realonable shipping and... yeh... I bought some points on ebay for less than $15 as I didnt use Pampers that much as there were cheeper brands with same quality. Prize selection is week now though...
