When in college there are many things you will need to survive: a ruler, a notebook, a backpack and often times, a reliable mode of transportation. However, how do you decide on the right vehicle for college? Sure you may say you want a BMW, but when you think about the costs for maintenance, you may think otherwise. After reading this article you should not only have a better idea of what to look for and what not to look at, but how to make your decision with ease.

A good place to start is setting a budget. How much money are you able and willing to spend on your vehicle? This will determine your vehicle options. Weather your allowance allows you to look in the area of new or used vehicles. The standard lifetime that a student will keep their cars during college years are about two to six years. So although some frown upon the idea of a used car, in actuality it's not so bad and may save you money depending upon how long the student will need the vehicle.

Although budgets can range between 5,000 and 21,000 dollars, it is good to keep in mind that cheaper doesn't necessarily mean bad and expensive doesn't always mean good. That is why it is crucially important that you thoroughly research and inspect any vehicle you are looking to buy. As sad as it may be, there are dealerships that swindle people everyday and there's almost nothing you can do about it once signed and paid for. That's why you should take the extra time to study your vehicle of choice, do not be afraid to as questions, and if you know very little about cars, take someone with you that may know a little bit more on the subject. Remember, it's your money, it's your way. Never allow a salesman or any individual pressure you into a deal that may cost you more then you are able and willing to pay.
