We're an organic food family. As much as possible we make our own food from scratch. That means hours of preparing food like our home made bread or purchasing organic meat and preparing it ourselves rather than having the store process it for us.

Normally that means hours of cooking and baking, but there are times when a parent has other things to do. Like me. I have to write. So I was pleased when the nice folks from Healthy Handfuls passed me some samples of their Crocodile Cookies the other day.

The packaging is recycled (for the most part) and is attractively packaged to generate interest from the younger set. There is a foil wrapper to keep the cookies fresh inside the board package, the only downfall to the packaging in my opinion. The individual packages even have a tiny pop-up handle, which make this package perfect for kids to play with AFTER they've consumed their snack. My daughter painted hers and turned it into a small purse for a day.

Now, onto the review of the product. My children and I tested this product with the mandatory glass of milk. We each nibbled on the cookies and gave our impressions. My daughter liked how the cookies crunched. My son loved the slight cinnamon flavour. I liked the combination of crunch and chew from the oatmeal and the raisin. This cookie had both flavour and texture going for it.

This product is nut-free, free of transfats and is kosher. I was pleased to see that the caloric values weren't off the charts, but still, with approximately 9 cookies in the box, that would make for a 200 cal snack, with 10 g of sugar. Thankfully, the cookie is high in iron, so I didn't feel so bad about having this treat.

The kids loved the cookies, indeed, they held their hands out and asked for more. I wished I had grabbed TWO boxes of sample cookies instead of just one. I'll just have to rush out and get some more.
