One of the main tools that help me to be able to cope with ADHD symptoms during the summer is variety. I like to be spontaneous in my activities, and enjoy doing many things during the summer including gardening, playing tennis, spending a day at the lake swimming and cooking our, or having a simple cookout at home with family and friends.
The hustle and bustle of many outdoor and social summer activities can lead to sometimes severe episodes of absent-mindedness. I like to plan ahead in order to avoid absent mindedness. When planning my day during the hustle and bustle summer activities. I like to plan ahead on everything including what I am going to wear. I like to pack a day bag of clothing in the order that I am going to wear the clothing from my regular casual clothing, to my swimwear, along with any accessories that I am going to need during the summer day
One of the best coping skills for the ADHD sufferer during the summer months is to pay attention to the weather so that unexpected summer rain shower and storms don't upset your plans. I remember one summer day I had planned to go fishing only to be sidelined by a downpour with thunder showers. I was so thrown by this that I couldn't focus my mind on anything else for the rest of the day.
The beginning of the summer can also adversely affect the moods of a person affected with ADHD. I'm usually pretty well content and happy with most of my life. However, during the first few weeks of warm summer weather, I tend to fall into a depression, because the winter months are over and I have trouble getting adjusted to being able to go outside and engage in outdoor activities, When this happens, you should do something to take your mind off feeling caged in, such as blogging or some other hobby. Don't let things bottle up. Talk it out, write it out, or find some other diversion.
