What will be the fuel source when natural gas runs low? Will there be enough energy after natural gas. Alternative energy sources are currently capable of maintaining our current level of energy output. Types of alternative energy sources include biomass, wind, solar, hydro, tidal wave and geothermal energy. Alternative energy is defined as source of energy not including fossil fuels. The advantages of alternative fuels sources are compared to fossil fuels they create less greenhouse gases and produce less and in many cases no pollution.

Probably the most controversial of all the alternative energy sources is Nuclear power. The two ways of creating Nuclear power is through nuclear fission and nuclear fusion. Nuclear fission is the splitting the nuclei of an atom where nuclear fusion is the combining of nuclei of atoms. Uranium and/or plutonium are split through nuclear fusion resulting in heat which is collected to create electric energy in a Nuclear reactor. This process is relatively safe, clean and cheap over the course of a nuclear power plants life. The Problem with Nuclear power is it's a public safety concern due to many melt downs which have happened over the years.

This led to the stop of all new nuclear power plants in the United States. Nuclear power is believed by many people and scientists to be the answer to the worlds future need for energy needs and if refined can one day be the main form of energy production. (Advameg Inc 2007). The department of Energy is currently researching basic technology and methods of using nuclear power to strengthen the safety of Nuclear power used in energy and the nuclear security and management. (United states Department of Energy).
