1. Box It UpGet long storage boxes for under the bed and plastic compartment for pest proof storage of winter clothes. Put all winter weight wool sweaters and pants into long storage elsewhere. Use moth balls and tissue paper for appropriate fabrics and textures. If you haven't worn it in three months and don't plan on traveling with it, box it. Getting winter or heavy weight clothing out of your closet makes it easier to see all your summer stuff all at once.
Coats and raincoats should be stored likewise and room in your closet freed up. Summer tops and lightweight fabrics should be ironed and pressed to look great. Organize summer fashion accessories like belts and jewelry to be near the khaki and white pieces you now own. Make sure you have "orphans" without matching tops or pants ready to be matched. What you need to buy will be easier picturing that section of your closet.
2. Plastic Bags
Plastic bags prevent moisture from getting into or onto precious clothes when the neighbor onto summer clothes returning from wearings. Put angora or silk clothes into plastic bags to prevent vapors or stains from other clothes from settling in. Make a bulk trip to the dry cleaner and keep the plastics on or use the for other clothing when you get home. Clothes with beading, spangles, rhinestones, sharp buttons or extra sharp zippers should not be jammed next to other clothing. Damaged clothing will result over time. Unwashed new clothes with dyes and hairs knit into the wool should not be pressed in high ehat next to whites and cottons. If moisture builds up, dyes might transfer even onto new clothes.
Clothes end up jammed together, you may not realize until the day you pull it out and put it on that makeup stains, wine spills, or food dribbles contaminated your most killer date night top. Salt and sand, smoke and alcohol, chlorine and perfumes can damage fine or winter weight wools and fabrics. Bagging winter clothes, fine evening garments, and formal pieces can save ugly surprises on the big night.
