Mark Foley Should Be Silenced

This article is a response to the article Mark Foley Should Ask to Amend His Statements Published on October 14, 2006. After reading the above cited article and taking a deep breath, I decided to risk the author’s warning to any “wambat” who disagrees with him and add to the boiling political pot. The argument presented by the author of the article did not convince me. The Mark Foley and friends fiasco is another despicable example of a pedophile with power. Since I could care less about political affiliation when the issue at hand is child sexual abuse, I write this as an American, and a mother. As a citizen, I am embarrassed to watch the scandal unfolding before the eyes of the world. How did we get to the point where sex scandals and immorality have become the new midlife crisis for the men in Washington?

The author of the Mark Foley article proposes that Foley should have the chance to take back or somehow reframe his shameless acts. I tried very hard to rationalize that notion and came to the same conclusion. Mark Foley has been guilty of a crime from the moment he began to harass underage boys. Taking back his disclosure does not erase the crime. Foley’s face should be on the neighborhood alert for sexual predators. In this case, however, the neighborhood is Washington, and the neighbors are a bunch of blushing politicians who would rather keep a pervert around than protect the young men of their country.

I’m not condemning all politicians, but I spare no mercy for those that knew and chose to turn their head. The fact that the Washington newspapers were sniffing around like bloodhounds to post the Mark Foley disgrace, is irrelevant. I doubt that they were “picking on” Mr. Foley or paid by the left wing conspiracy club. If there’s a pedophile in Washington, everyone has a right to be warned.
