Whether you're about to graduate from high school, have a teenager who is, or just want to reminisce about the days of acne and angst, sex and love, and underage drinking and debauchery, you should appreciate the films on this list. They all have something to say about one of the most tumultuous and odd times that we all go through in life. If you're the parent of a teen, you could try watching these films with your teenager, but there are some scenes that might be a little uncomfortable to watch together. Just keep in mind that while some of the themes might seem very "grown up", your teenager is about to become an adult, and they should be able to handle it.

American Graffiti (1973)
Ron Howard's look at teenage life in the early 60's shows us that, while a lot of things have changed for teens today, many things still remain the same. During the summer after high school, a group of teenagers are all about to embark on different paths in life, and some of them still aren't quite sure what road they're going to take. They engage in one last night of cruising around, listening to the radio, racing cars, and attempting to pick up girls. It's an interesting look at bygone days, but it really hits home for teenagers who are trying to decide if they should stay close to home or go out on their own somewhere far away for college.

American Pie (1999)
In contrast to the above-mentioned film, this comedy puts soul-searching on the backburner. It's all about one of the most troubling dilemmas teenage boys ever face: trying to lose their virginity. This film has spawned a slew of rated-R teen sex comedies, but it's definitely the original. It contains one of the most memorable scenes of the 90's era: a sex act with an apple pie, and one of the most quoted lines: "One time, at band camp..." Oh yeah, it's also responsible for widespread use of the term "MILF". It may not have much of a life lesson, but it is at least a slightly more realistic look at teen sex, partying, and the awkwardness of trying to grow up
